서울대학교 고고미술사학과는 전곡리 유적 및 주먹도끼 발견 30주년을 기념하고자, 2008년 11월 5, 6일 양일간 서울대학교에서 <2008서울 구석기국제학술회의>를 개최합니다. 서울대학교 규장각한국학연구원의 후원으로 열리는 본 학술회의에서는 <Diversity and Variability in the East Asian Palaeolithic - Toward an Improved Understanding>이라는 주제 아래, 1978년 전곡리에서 처음 발견된 이래 임진강 유역을 비롯해 한반도 각지에서 발견되고 있는 주먹도끼 및 관련 석기를 비롯한 동아시아 구석기의 다양한 양상과 특징에 대한 검토와 논의가 인도네시아, 중국, 일본, 미국, 영국 및 국내 전문가 15인의 발표를 통해 다루어질 계획입니다. 발표내용과 대체적인 학술회의 일정은 첨부파일에서 보는 바와 같으며, 회의 전 과정은 일정상 통역 없이 진행됩니다.

2008 Seoul Palaeolithic Conference

Diversiy and Variability in the East Asian Palaeolithic - Toward an Improved Understanding

Date: November 5 and 6, 2008

Venue: Room No. 302, Shinyang Humanities Hall, Seoul National University

New evidence from various parts in the East Asia has revealed the complex nature of the regional palaeolithic. Its diversity and variability are best exemplified by handaxes and related stone tools in Korea at the eastern end of the Eurasian continent, which defy any simplistic notions on the patterning in the assemblage composition during the Pleistocene. Organized by the Department of Archaeology and Art History, Seoul National University, in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the handaxe discovery in Korea, the 2008 Seoul Palaeolithic Conference will discuss various issues related to the palaeolithic research of the region with the theme <Diversity and Variability in the East Asian Palaeolithic - Toward an Improved Understanding>. Presentations will be made by 15 participants from Indonesia, China, Japan, U.S.A., U.K. and Korea. General schedule of the conference and abstracts are attached.
